Environmental responsibility
Reg Ellis + Associates is an environmentally aware practice. We consider it our responsibility to advise our clients as to how the energy use and impact on the environment of their new projects can be minimised.
The key to sustainable design is to start early in the design process, to make the best use of site factors such as orientation and to reduce energy consumption by paying special attention to insulation, natural daylighting, thermal mass and air-tightness.
The challenge for the designer then is how to incorporate the rapidly developing environmental technologies such as solar and photo voltaic panels; heat pumps; wind turbines; rainwater harvesting; grey water recycling; reed bed drainage into sites without detracting from the architectural or historic quality of the building or landscape.
Much ‘green technology’ comes at considerable cost and we can provide access to specialists in each field who our clients can work with to establish the time, cost and pay-back period. We can also help with applications to the Low Carbon Buildings programme for grants.
